Welcome to the Christian Counseling Connection! We provide resources that are research based, professional, AND simultaneously consistent with the Judaeo-Christian Bible. We do not consider professional counseling a 'rival religion,' any more than a dentist appointment shows a lack of faith.

Consider the following:

"I do not believe that accepting the biological factors in emotional illness detracts one iota from the sufficiency of Christ -- no more than accepting the biological basis of gout or cystic fibrosis undermines one's faith. The medical community, insurance companies and legisl ators are all starting to recognize the biological contribution to mental illness. My concern and prayer is that Christians in particular recognize these truths and, in the process, extend more grace, compassion and assistance to the wounded among us."  Why Do Christians Shoot Their Wounded Dwight L. Carlson, M.D. 1994, InterVarsity Press, Downers Grove IL

Unfortunately many clergy extend services beyond their training under the assumption that their study of the Bible alone makes them 'fully' equipped. In one of the many required membership classes I attended, a local pastor in Washington bragged of his pastoral "self-education" using ONLY the Bible and refusal to attend a formal seminary or Christian university to avoid being polluted. (So much for Hermeneutics, Apologetics, Theology, etc)! It is fortunate that Christian medical doctors study "to show thyself approved II Timothy 2:15."

"My prayer is that we in 'Christiandom' will develop a greater understanding and a more helpful approach to people with emotional difficulties -- one that will neither let people evade choices they need to make nor ad guilt to the burden they are already carrying. Instead, it will help them sort out the various causes, seek appropriate help and feel the support of the church community throughout their journey toward health and wholeness."  - Dwight L. Carlson, MD
